Need a break from our ever-dystopian world by visiting an even more dystopian future? If so, I’ve got good(?) news for you: the fifth season of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale is coming back in September and we’ve got a trailer to tell us all about it.
The trailer shows June (Elisabeth Moss) facing the repercussions of killing Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes). Gilead isn’t happy about the murder, and his new widow, Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), seems especially eager to get back at June. June, however, is more than ready to fight back against Serena and the rest of Gilead, even from Canada.
Here’s the synopsis for season five of the show:
In Season 5, June faces consequences for killing Commander Waterford while struggling to redefine her identity and purpose. The widowed Serena attempts to raise her profile in Toronto as Gilead’s influence creeps into Canada. Commander Lawrence works with Aunt Lydia as he tries to reform Gilead and rise in power. June, Luke, and Moira fight Gilead from a distance as they continue their mission to save and reunite with Hannah.
In addition to Moss and Strahovski, season five of the show will see Bradley Whitford, Max Minghella, and O-T Fagbenle return in their respective roles.
The fifth season of The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on Hulu on September 14, 2022.
